Life of a Professional Bassmaster, Part 1: Glenn Browne

My season has finally started and I’m excited about the schedule. I am fishing the Central and Northern FLW Rayovac tournaments and we are fishing some great places and there is actually a couple that I have never been to. It is always fun going to new places because you have no preconceived notions and no history which allows me to go into a tournament with an open mind. As for what I have been up to lately I just got back from Kentucky and Barkley Lake, I have fished there several times, and is a place I generally do pretty well, so I was excited about this tournament. It is also a place that is steeped in bass tournament fishing history along with FLW Outdoors being headquartered there in Benton. The fishing was pretty good from the moment I hit the water and you could catch fish about any way you wanted whether that is in a foot of water or twenty feet. Of course, me being a shallow water guy I headed straight for Lake Barkley which has flooded bushes around the lake and the bite was on.

Many of these fish were spawning at the base of the bushes because every time you would catch one it would have a bloodied tail where they fan the spawning bed (see attached picture).

Every day of the tournament I headed to the southern end of Lake Barkley and caught a bunch of fish, I just never caught any giants. On the first day of the tournament, I had a little over fifteen pounds and right at fourteen pounds for the second day finishing the tournament in 33rd place. The tournament was won fishing offshore ledges in Kentucky lake by a friend of mine Tom Reddington and was well deserved.

Once the tournament was over I rushed home to get a day of practice on the St. Johns river for the Wolfson’s children's hospital tournament which is this Saturday. This tournament draws in the neighborhood of 500 hundred boats and is quite the spectacle to see. I have actually won this tournament twice in the past and always have a blast fishing in this great event. After my day of practice on the river, I think I have a great shot at a good finish in the tournament.

As for my upcoming travels, it appears that I may be circumnavigating half of the country. My new boat is scheduled to be done in about ten days, so I will drive to Flippin, AR. to pick up my new Ranger Boat. My new boat will be wrapped just like my boat last season but will be powered by the new Evinrude G2 engine which is absolutely awesome. Then from there, I will head for the James River in Virginia for the first Northern Rayovac series tournament. This is one of those places I have never been so I am looking forward to getting on the water there.

As always if you see the Superchips wrapped boat truck in your travels stop and say hello, I always love to talk about my tournament and rig and my Jeep JKU Rubicon and the advantages of a Superchips programmer.
